About this list
Near means within 500 km of the reference point, on the map’s Nearby card and on place pages alike: a distance to where each agency locates its report, not an affected area. This page lists up to 40 reports, agency listings first. A GDACS country listing, a USGS locality or a NASA EONET title is the agency's own placement, not a measure of impact, and a country or region name does not mean complete coverage of its borders. Within each placement group, recent source times lead, followed by older and unknown times. Fires reporting 100% containment, agency-titled recovery records and resolved or archived records follow. Within each group, the site's published Notable severity tiers lead, then distance. Seven-day labels describe source times, not current activity or event onset; retrieval and revision do not make an old observation recent.
The map’s Nearby card also lists NHC/CPHC storms and offers NWS alerts for U.S. places; this page lists USGS, NASA EONET and GDACS reports. The two can differ as sources refresh, and neither lists every hazard.
Last read is when this site last read the feed, not when the agency observed or updated a report; a fresh read does not make an old report recent.
